Training Course "Breaking down the wall – practical guide on non violent action", Georgia, 21-28.06.2010

This training course (TC) is dedicated to the promotion of non-violent actions to struggle agains discriminiation, Racism and Xenophobia and develop peaceful solutions. The project will gather youth workesrs and youth NGO representatives from several Western and Eastern European countries such as: Finland, Austria, Latvia, Lithuania, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russian Federation.

The TC will cover different types of conflicts and in different settings and consequently ways of transforming conflicts by non-violent actions. The emphasize is placed on foster a cooperation in the youth field and develop constructive debates on current European challlenges such as Xenophobia, Racism, discrimination and. This will be done by promoting non-violent approaches leading to actions on peace-building. Moreover, young leaders will discuss the significant role of youth participation in grass-root non violent actions initiatives.

The trainers and invited experts will share practical and theoretical knowledge on the topics, through plenary sessions, discussions, workshops, creativity sessions, intercultural & interactive exercises and other non-formal educational methods. Essential throughout the TC is the input and experience sharing from participants.

The training course will take place in Kobuleti, Georgia, and will last for 6 days.

Objectives:

  • Deepen participants’ understanding of key concepts of conflict management and peace-building and non violent actions;
  • Familiarize the participants with concepts and approaches of non violent actions i.e. how to use it best and adapt it to local contexts and realities in order to promote peace building;
  • Motivate participants to advocate non-violent actions;
  • Review and enhance participants’ competences (knowledge, skills, attitudes) in working as trainers, multipliers, and activists on peace building using non formal education tools;
  • Enable participants to develop activities and programmes for training multipliers in conflict;
  • Transformation and non-violent actions, at international, national or local level.

Target group:

The participants of the meeting will be

  • youth leaders and NGO activists, youth workers;
  • having possibility to multiply gained knowledge and make Non Violent Actions;
  • having great motivation and enthusiasm;
  • Experience in NGO field, management, managing initiative groups;
  • Very good English language Skills

Time:

Arrival: 21st of June before 12.00

Departure: 27th of June in the late evening, or 28th in the early morning

Accommodation:

You will be sharing a double room with another person of the same sex, each room has one bathroom. There are towels and bed lines.

At the hotel there is available billiard. We suggest you to bring some swimming suites, as Kobuleti is across of the Black Sea and in the evenings or early mornings you can enjoy the swimming.

! Note: Please note that organizers will not provide any additional accommodation for your extra stay in Georgia, those who wants to arrive few days earlier or departure few days later should inform us and we will help you to book the hotel.

Travelling to Georgia:

You can take flight, train or bus to Georgia. The participants who are flying from Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Austria we strongly suggest you to search your flights through Air Baltic http://www.airbaltic.com/public/index.html or Czech Airlines http://www.csa.cz/en/portal/homepage/cz_homepage.htm as nowadays these companies are the best and cheapest flight connections to Tbilisi.

Transport to the hotel and from the hotel:

You will be picked up from Airport, Train or Bus Station as well as we will provide you with transportation to the Airport, Train or Bus Station after the course.

Please look at the Airport, Train or Bus Station for the volunteer with a paper with the title of the PROJECT. (Details will be sent, after there will be made a selection)

Travel Costs:

The organisers will reimburse 70% of participants' travel costs from your home city to Kobuleti, Georgia.

Reimbursement of travel costs will only be done upon presentation of all (including return) original tickets, receipt/invoices and boarding passes and later sending of the return documents and boarding passes.

Please DO RESERVE the tickets, but DO NOT BUY them before 15th of May

Please keep the boarding tags from your airport check in as well. Reimbursement will be done in EURO, regardless of the currency indicated on your ticket and receipt/invoice.

! Note: Please note if you bought your ticket in your local currency which might be different than EUR, we will calculate your travel costs according to the exchange rates from official European Commission web-site for the month of ticket purchase http://ec.europa.eu/budget/inforeuro/index.cfm?Language=en

!! Note: Please note that the minibuses from Tbilisi to Kobuleti and back will be provided by the organizers, you will be charged for 30% of the travel cost Tbilisi-Kobuleti-Tbilsi. Tbilisi-Kobuleti-Tbilisi route will not cost more than 10 EUR (return).

!!! Note: Please see the Annex 1 for the travel budget limits at the end of this document. If your travel costs exceed the amount budgeted in the project, we will be able to reimburse you 70% of the travel costs indicated in the travel budget.
